After consulting with team captains and a number of other WithQuizzers throughout today the decision has been taken to suspend the current season's programme WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT.
We have taken into account advice from medical professionals who play in our league and also the views of some of you who would be unable to play on during this epidemic for very good personal reasons.
In detail the decisions are...
1. To suspend the WithQuiz programme of matches with immediate effect
2. To abandon this season’s Val Draper Cup and Plate competitions
3. Providing the situation is sufficiently improved, to reschedule the remaining 2 rounds of WithQuiz league matches for the second half of September – and if desired an end-of-season Presentation evening straight after these two matches.
4. Depending on what Mike Wagstaffe and the Stockport League say, to schedule the WIST and Lowly Grail finals for late September.
During the lay-off please keep an eye on the website and the message-board; I will keep things up-to-date if and when the situation changes and also post any information I have regarding Dave's funeral.
Keep safe, MIKE

Hi Mike and all
We are in unprecedented times and I recognise that the safety of all Withquizzers must be the paramount consideration in all decisions of this sort. As such, I wholeheartedly agree with the cancellation of this season's cup competitions and the rescheduling of the WIST and Lowly Grail finals and any end of season presentation night to September. Would it not be better, however, to try get the last two rounds of league matches completed now whilst pubs and clubs are still open ahead of a potentially more stringent lockdown? Then, hopefully, we can start afresh with a new league season as normal in October. I am no medical expert and I am quite prepared to be convinced that this approach is foolhardy but the current government position and advice would allow us to do this. Just a thught.

Hi Dave,
It was indeed tempting over the weekend to suggest we go ahead with the final two rounds of league matches and then suspend. Whilst every team captain said they would go along with the consensus, at least a couple indicated their favoured approach would be to complete the league competition before suspension. The majority however voted - albeit reluctantly - for an immediate cessation.
A factor that weighed heavily with me was that a few prominent quizzers would be missing due to self-imposed isolation and this, it could be argued, would devalue the ultimate league table standings. In particular I know Rachael would have to miss matches (indeed she missed last Wednesday) and Mantis Shrimp are very much in the mix for the title. Also it seems likely that by Wednesday the Government has instructed all 70+ year olds to stick at home and this would keep me and a few others out of matches.
When we do resume it will be relatively painless to superimpose a couple of matches on top of the start to a new season. Let's hope that can be during September and that this wretched virus is on the wane by then.
